Drone use in Thailand is regulated by law, and agricultural drones, which are heavy, fall within the scope of what must be done.

The overall principle

  • Drones above the set weight threshold, or fitted with image-recording equipment, must be registered with the relevant authorities. In Thailand this involves two main authorities: the civil aviation authority, and the communications authority that oversees the radio frequencies drones use.

Agricultural drones weigh several times more than ordinary camera drones, so they definitely fall within the scope, and in some cases there may be additional conditions concerning the pilot and the flying area.

What to prepare

  • Identity documents of the owner
  • Documents giving details of the aircraft, such as brand, model, serial number and weight
  • Proof of purchase or possession
  • Insurance documents as required

Take care with flying areas

  • Some areas are no-fly zones or need special permission, such as near airports, certain types of government areas and security areas. Fields close to these areas must always be checked first.

Why no specific figures or steps here

  • Because the details of the law, weight thresholds, fees and procedures are updated from time to time. Writing figures into an article risks readers relying on out-of-date information and getting it wrong.

Always check directly with the authorities or their official websites before going ahead, and if you buy a drone from a seller who offers help with the process, ask clearly what it covers and whether there are extra costs.
