Sprayer operator safety — what you need every time, not only on days you spray strong chemicals
Drones mean people no longer walk through spray mist, but the risk is still there in the mixing and cleaning steps.

The clearest advantage of a spraying drone is that people no longer have to carry a tank and walk through spray mist for hours. But the risk has not gone away completely. It has moved.
The real risk points in drone work
- Mixing, where you handle concentrated product directly.
- Filling the tank, where spills and splashes can happen.
- Cleaning the system after spraying, where you handle rinse water that still contains product.
- Standing under the flight path or too close while spraying.
Minimum protective equipment
- Chemical-resistant gloves, not cloth gloves or thin rubber gloves.
- Goggles or other eye protection.
- A long-sleeved shirt and long trousers.
- Closed shoes, not sandals.
- A mask as specified on the label of the product.
The label of each product clearly states the equipment required. Follow that, not habit.
Safe distance during flight
- Always stay upwind, do not stand under the flight path, and keep people who are not involved out of the area. Agricultural drone propellers spin with enough force to cause serious injury, so distance is not only about spray droplets.
After work
- Wash your hands and face before drinking or smoking. Change out of the clothes you sprayed in and wash them separately from other clothes. Store protective equipment somewhere dry and clean, not together with chemicals.
What to keep in the vehicle every time
- Clean water for rinsing eyes and body if product splashes on you, emergency phone numbers, and the label or safety data sheet of the products used that day, so the doctor knows what you were exposed to.
If you feel unwell
- Dizziness, nausea, blurred vision or difficulty breathing: stop work immediately, leave the area, wash yourself and see a doctor, taking the product label with you. Do not wait to see how the symptoms develop.
- Important note
- This article explains general principles. It is not a recommendation for any specific chemical. Suitable mixing rates and timing differ by substance, crop, growth stage and field conditions. Always treat the product label as the authority, and ask our staff or an agricultural specialist before deciding.
